After completing the steps booting into the steamos loader seems to work (not sure if vmlinuz does too?).I'm sure this method will work for other Apple hardware, but I've only tested on my Mac MiniSo I ran into some issues a few years ago trying to get the Mac Mini with the AMD graphics card into a HTPC/Emu center. I found that until I had completed the official guide steps 7-10 I had to boot into the vmlinuz option. One with tux that notes vmlinuz and one with multi-color boxes that notes steamos. Going to test more tomorrow with other games. In the rEFInd boot menu there's two linux choices. But when I tried to play a game (specifically S.P.A.Z.) the whole thing would freeze up. Steam Uk Mac OSX Can ImmediatelyYou're probably now wondering, "But. The GPU probably reports the Max it can have allocated, but expects the OS to give it more when it needs to go above the Firmware's initial allotment. This same thing occurs if trying to do a Windows 8 EFI install on the Mac (this is were I got some of this info originally before retesting with Linux). I am unsure if any Linux programmers have been able to capture and reproduce the API calls needed, but nothing has been integrated into the AMD drivers or Linux kernel (I do not know if this affects the Intel GPUs or not, perhaps you could share which one you have to help make progress). Now, the reason for the actual crash I believe is because the system needs more vRAM to do the activities, and either doesn't know how to claim more (unlikely as the system should be able to recognize not enough vRAM and not try to boot the game) or what I think is a more likely scenario: the AMD drivers/Linux kernel read a device version from the Graphics card that it has 256 MB or 512 MB of RAM, despite the fact that it hasn't actually been allocated yet by the OS. But I believe this is a very specific api call to the Hardware that Apple designed and is not very well documented. Now, Mac OSX can immediately share more memory to the GPU as soon as it is needed. So, when the system boots, it only boots with a minimal amount of vRAM (I have been unable to determine how much, but I believe it is in the 32 MB range).
